The Invisible Internet Project (I2P) is a garlic routing using overlay network and darknet that allows applications to send messages to each other pseudonymously and securely. Uses include anonymous Web surfing, chatting, blogging and file transfers. The software that implements this layer is called an I2P router and a computer running I2P is called an I2P node.

I2P is designed primarily for anonymous communication and accessing the deep web, making it ideal for privacy-focused users, while OpenVPN is a versatile VPN solution that offers high speeds and ease of use, suitable for general internet browsing and streaming. The key distinction lies in I2P's emphasis on anonymity and peer-to-peer networking, whereas OpenVPN prioritizes speed and user-friendly configuration.
